The people of God are called, therefore, to exhort one another continually in a local church context in order that we might be holy as God is holy (1 Peter 1:16; cf. Lev. 11:44). If an individual stumbles and becomes involved in continual, unrepentant sin, the church must lovingly confront and, if necessary, remove those who refuse to repent.11 This ongoing, communal process of discipline must take place,12 but a robust culture of discipleship will prevent many of these extreme cases.
